Finding the cheapest textbook is much easier than visiting 20 different websites and then comparing all of the prices to each other. Don’t waste your time when you can do it in a matter of minutes.
How to Find the Cheapest Textbooks
The website Bigwords does this searching for you. It scans several internet sites and gives you the cheapest price of the book you are looking for. It can save several hundreds of dollars per book.
How to Use Bigwords
First, go to the site. Then type the ISBN number into the search box click search. If you do not have the ISBN number, try the title and edition number.
After you click the search button, find the book that you are looking for. Then click the title of the book.
The cover of the book should come up with retail price and some other information about the book. After about 15-30 second, scroll down and it will give you the cheapest price to rent, buy, for the ebook version, or to sell. If you scroll down it will give you all the suppliers, types of purchase, and total amount after shipping. Most of the cheapest are either rentals or New/used INTL, which is the international version. As I mentioned in my other post, they are about the exact same. Usually the only thing that is different is the cover (it is paperback) and the pages are black and white.
This will give you tons of options at prices that you will not beat ANYWHERE! When a book costs $20, you wont find it cheaper.
If this isn’t cheap enough for you…
You can check the buy back option at the top. What this does is take each companies lowest price for the book at the time, and then highest buyback price at the time, and then find the difference. If amazon is willing to sell a book for $60 and buy it back for $50, your price is $10. Sometimes thing will give you cheaper options and sometimes it wont help any.
One thing to be careful with is if the edition changes after you use it, you may not be able to get as much as it said you could on Bigwords because companies might not be paying that much anymore.
SO which one should I get?
I have 3 things I usually look at. I usually look to buy, total cost, and the biggest factor, shipping time. Being that some are international versions, they may take weeks to ship. This is the biggest factor because if I need it in a week, I can’t always get the cheapest versions.
To find the shipping times, just click on the details and it will give you an estimate on how long it will take. Some will ship 5-14 days and other will be same day (usually gets sent out the same day you order). So if I have time to spare, I will just go to the cheapest version to buy and buy it. If I am crunched on time, I usually either find a company that ships fast or just go to amazon for free two day shipping.
The main companies I have ordered off were valorebooks, textbookrush and amazon.
Hopefully this helped and if you have any questions, let me know in the comments below.
